First try

BIOS Fan profils :

  • WC H50 Corsair pwm fan : silent 692 rpm
  • WC H50 Corsair pump :  70% 1118 rpm
  • TJ08-e 180mm Front fan : silent 921 rpm

CPU settings :

  • Idle load ( Linux KDE Desktop + Firefox )
  • Case opened
  • TJ08-E’s front fan switch[HIGH]
  • CPU Core i7-920 OC 1920-3210MHz @ 1053mV
  • FSB=160MHz ,
  • SpeedStep[ON],
  • HTT[ON],

Temperatures :

  • 4 Cores : 40° 38° 39° 38°C
  • IOH NB : 65°C @ 1172mV
  • ICH SB : 44°C @ 1119mV
  • MB Case : 35°C
  • HDD WD RE3 : 31°C
  • GPU GTX570 : 35°C @ 50MHz

Second try

  • Case closed
  • 180mm front fan switch setted to low @ 771 rpm
  • Idle load

Temperatures :

  • 4 Cores : 43° 41° 42° 41°C
  • IOH NB : 68°C

Third try

  • 180mm fan @ low voltage
  • 10 minutes CPU load testing

It’s amazing, the amount of dust accumulated in the bowels of our computers.

Here we go with a brush, vacuum slow speed, and we clean each component:

motherboard, memory chips, hard drive, power supply, video card, case in every corner;

the worst: the fans and the heatsink of the water cooling kit.

We take this opportunity to apply a thin layer of thermal compound MX-2 on the Core i7-920 processor overclocked at 3.2 GHz

Gain of the operation: 10°C less recorded on the Core temperature.

It’s worth a shot, isn’t it !
